The Poetry Game can be played out of the box with the included instructions. In addition, we offer workshops and trainings, where our team comes to your group. We mostly operate in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area, but sometimes travel beyond, and have trainers in other locations as well. For example, we’ve offered workshops in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, the Menominee Reservation in Wisconsin, and Iceland!

We have offered Poetry Game workshops in the following venues (partial listing): University of Maryland Summer Arabic Institute, Boston University, the Writer’s Center, the Havurah Institute, the Jewish Studies Center, Iona Senior Services, DC Public Schools, and MOMIES after school program.

We have scholarships to keep our workshops free or affordable.

Workshops for Classes and Groups. We come to your class, faith congregation, event or organization, and facilitate a workshop for a your group that meets your goals, such as:

  • Students at UMD playing the Arabic Poetry GameA 5th grade English Class Poetry Game workshop aligned with Common Core standards
  •  A Middle school Spanish Club bilingual poetry workshop to reinforce language skills
  •  A writing group at a senior center that wants to build community and maintain intellectual engagement and cognitive function
  •  An interfaith event for Jews and Muslims interested in increasing their interfaith understanding.

Trainings for Teachers and Facilitators: These are “Training the Trainer” or “Educator Professional Development” sessions. In these sessoins, we teach participants  to facilitate Poetry Game workshops to meet their own goals. For example:

  • Professional Development for Grade 4-12 teachers to use the English Poetry Game to reinforce common core standards or reach ELL students.
  • Training for Language Educators. We will train you to use the English, Spanish, Yiddish, or Arabic Poetry Game to enhance language learning.
  • Faith Community Training. We will train members of your faith community to use the Poetry Game to build community and make interfaith connections.
  • Training for Poetry Teachers. A toolkit for anyone who teaches poetry to adults, or students grades 4 and up.
